Special Programs Classes

Construction Trades

The Connections program is designed for 9th grade students, 14 years of age, who are identified as disadvantaged and having barriers to career and academic success. Placement of a student in this program will be determined by the Guidance Department.

Students will work on various shop skills during lab. Activities include drafting, basic woodworking, basic electrical wiring, carpentry and more. Students complete several community service projects throughout the county.

The primary goal of the program is to help students get on the "right path" toward graduation. Academic classes are included with lab activities to meet the necessary credit requirements.

It is the hope that students will remain interested in school through this non-traditional educational setting and, by participation in the lab activities, spark an interest in one of the many career-technical programs offered at the Career Centers to complete their high school education.

Lab Activities:
- Shop safety
- Woodworking equipment
- Individual projects
- Group projects
- Community service projects

Program Goals:
- Improve attendance
- Improve grades
- Graduate high school
- Develop employabillity skills
- Develop a career plan

The Belmont-Harrison Vocational School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age in its programs and activities and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
