BCC Employee Receives "School Hero" Award

Tim Kyer, head of maintenance at the Belmont and Harrison Career Centers, has been recognized by the Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools (CORAS) with the 2019-2020 School Hero Award.

CORAS, in partnership with the Ohio University College of Education, is an organization composed of 136 school districts, institutions of higher learning and other educational agencies in the 35 county region of Ohio designated as Appalachia. The mission of CORAS is to advocate for and support the public schools of Appalachia Ohio in the continuous improvement of educational opportunities available to all the region's students.

"School districts rely heavily on good employees," noted Dr. Richard Murray, Executive Director of CORAS. "However, during this time of incredible challenges, we don't often take time to acknowledge many of our best and most talented employees," he continued.

Richard Schoene, superintendent of the Belmont-Harrison Vocational School District, nominated Kyer for the award. "Tim is dedicated and stays on the job until it's completed. He has gone over and above during the pandemic making sure the district has supplies and that each building is clean and sanitized," offered Schoene.

"CORAS has a 32 year tradition of advocating and supporting public schools in our region," Murray said. "Recognizing outstanding employees in our member districts is one of many ways we hope to continue this tradition," he added.
