Career Centers Receive CPR Training
As a result of Ohio updating its curriculum requirements, all students at both the Belmont and Harrison Career Centers are receiving CPR and AED training.
Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, public schools with grades 9-12 must provide instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to all students.
The Career Centers are fortunate enough to have three staff members who are qualified to administer the curriculum to the students. Maura Birney and Cathy Yochum, both Allied Health Science instructors, are registered nurses, while Debbie Hawthorne, Dental Assisting instuctor, is also an emergency medical technician (EMT). They are providing instruction to students in all programs throughout the two buildings.
Students follow a curriculum that requires a pre-test, viewing of a training video, hands-on practice, and a post-test.
