Allied Health Science Program Hosts Fall Blood Drive

Students in the Allied Health Science program at the Belmont Career Center recently hosted their fall blood drive with the American Red Cross at the school. The class collected units of blood throughout the school day.

Pictured giving blood is AHS student Rachel Jenkins, Union Local, while AHS students Taylor Huntsman (left), Union Local and Shawna Warner, Martins Ferry, along with instructor Cathy Yochum look on.

Allied Health Science students train in health professions such as medical assistant, nurse aide, first aid and CPR. Junior students learn basic health skills used in all health care occupations. Seniors complete the state approved Nurse Aide Training Program, making them eligible for state certification, during the first semester. In the second semester, students may take part in early job placement, job shadowing and volunteer activities. Instructors are Cathy Yochum and Maura Birney.
