Belmont County Recognizes "Exceptional Students"

Shawna Warner, a senior in the Allied Health Science program at the Belmont Career Center, and Cassandra Wright, a senior in the Hospitality & Tourism program at the Harrison Career Center, were two of twelve students to receive the 2018 Belmont County Exceptional Student Award.

After overcoming serious health problems during her middle school years, Warner became interested in the nursing profession. She recently passed the State Tested Nurse Aide certification in Ohio and the Certified Nurses' Aide certification in West Virginia. She now works part-time at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling.

Warner has also been on the honor roll and recently placed fourth in extemporaneous speaking at the SkillsUSA regional competition. She is committed to becoming a nurse and plans to enroll in the nursing program at Belmont College after graduation.

Wright excels in helping others and is active in her community. She volunteers at the local food pantry, Scio Methodist Church and the Hopedale Social Hall where she helped set up for social events last fall. She is also an active member of 4-H, earning numerous trophies and ribbons for showing rabbits.
