Career Center Student Donates Hair To "Wigs For Kids"

Alexis Marovich, a recent Barnesville High School graduate who completed the Hair Design program at the Belmont Career Center, has donated her hair to the "Wigs for Kids" organization.

"Wigs for Kids" is a non-profit hair donation organization that has been serving children suffering from hair loss since 1981. The organization meets a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics.

"Children shouldn't have to worry about how they look, especially when they're in the middle of a health crisis," stated Jeffrey Paul, a Certified Cosmetic Therapist who founded "Wigs for Kids." "These are custom-made hair replacements. Each prosthesis is hand-tied and is made completely from human hair," he said.

This is the third time Marovich has donated her hair. "When I was two years old, my aunt passed away from breast cancer," Marovich said. "I remember her not having any hair and I always wanted to find a way to help in the future," she added.

Marovich donated her hair in third grade and just before the start of her eighth grade year to the "Locks of Love" organization. This time she wanted to donate to "Wigs for Kids."

Marovich is shown in both before and after pictures. The cutting took place in the Hair Design lab at the Career Center. Julie Ward, Industry Specialist for Great Clips, volunteered her services to braid and cut the locks of hair, as well as, style Marovich's now short hair.
